Your first visit
Not sure what to expect? Here’s exactly how your first appointment works, so you can arrive relaxed and ready. Our goal is simple — understand your problem properly, and get you started on the path to recovery.
What happens at your appointment
01
We listen
We start by understanding your problem — how it started, how it affects you, and what you want to get back to.
02
We assess
A hands-on physical assessment of how you move, so we can pinpoint what's driving your symptoms.
03
We explain
We explain what we've found in plain language, what it means, and roughly how recovery usually goes.
04
We start
You begin treatment and leave with a clear plan — exercises and advice tailored to you.
What to bring
A few things that help us give you the best possible first appointment.
- Your ACC claim number (if you have one)
- Any GP or specialist referral letter
- Relevant scans, X-rays or medical reports
- A list of any medications, if relevant
- Comfortable clothing you can move in
- Photo ID (helpful for new ACC claims)
Before you come in
How long is a first physiotherapy appointment?
Your first appointment is usually a little longer than follow-ups because it includes a full assessment as well as the start of your treatment. We'll let you know the length when you book.
What should I bring?
Bring any ACC claim number or referral letter you have, a list of medications if relevant, and any scans or reports related to your problem. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
Do I need a referral?
No — you can book directly with us for most injuries, including ACC claims. A GP or specialist referral is welcome if you have one, but it isn't required.
Will I get treatment on the first visit?
Usually yes. After the assessment we typically begin treatment and give you initial advice and exercises, so you leave with a plan and something to work on.
