Worksite Assessment

How your workspace is set up and the physical demands of your role can have a real impact on injury and recovery. A worksite assessment is a physiotherapist's visit to where you actually work — an office desk, a warehouse, a vehicle or a job site — to find the factors affecting your ability to work comfortably and safely. You get practical recommendations and an exercise programme to support recovery and a safe, sustainable return to work. We provide worksite assessments across East Auckland from our Pakuranga clinic, including Howick, Botany, East Tāmaki and Highland Park.

  • Neck, back and shoulder pain from sustained work postures
  • Repetitive-strain and overuse problems in the wrist, elbow or shoulder

What to expect

A clear, supportive process from your first visit through to recovery.

01

Understand the role

Before the visit we talk about your tasks, hours, postures and physical demands, any symptoms you're getting at work, and what a good outcome looks like for you and your employer.

02

On-site assessment

We watch you work and assess your posture and movement, your workstation or equipment, and the tasks that load your body most, such as lifting, reaching, screen work or repetitive movements.

03

Practical recommendations

You get clear, specific changes to your setup, technique, task design and breaks. Many are free or low-cost, like adjusting chair and screen height or changing how a task is done.

04

Exercise programme and follow-up

We give you a targeted exercise programme for the areas under strain and, where you're recovering from injury, a graded return-to-work plan you can share with your employer.

Our approach

We take a practical, real-world view of your work rather than a one-size-fits-all checklist. A chair adjustment won't fix every problem, so we look at the whole picture: your setup, the way you move, how long you spend in each position, and how strong and conditioned your body is for the job. Recommendations are specific to your role and your body. Where you're recovering from injury, they're designed with your physiotherapy treatment so that rehab and work support each other, helping you stay at work or return safely and for good.

Worksite Assessment — frequently asked questions

What is a worksite assessment?
A worksite assessment is a visit by a physiotherapist to your workplace to look at your tasks, workstation, posture and movement. The aim is to find what's contributing to pain or injury risk and give you practical changes and exercises to work comfortably and safely.
Who is a worksite assessment for?
It suits anyone with discomfort related to their work setup or tasks, and anyone planning a safe return to work after injury — whether office-based or in a physically demanding role. Employers also book them to prevent injuries or support a staff member who is struggling.
What's included and how much does it cost?
A worksite assessment is a 1-hour appointment that includes the site visit, a posture and ergonomic assessment, and an exercise programme. Check our fees page for the current price.
Do you do workstation assessments for office and desk workers?
Yes. For desk-based roles we check chair, desk, screen, keyboard and mouse setup, laptop use and working habits such as breaks and time sitting. We also look at your strength and mobility, because setup is only part of the answer.
Can a worksite assessment be part of an ACC claim?
Where an assessment relates to an ACC-covered injury and your return to work, it may be able to be included in your care. Get in touch and we'll let you know how a worksite assessment would work for your situation.
Can my employer book a worksite assessment?
Yes. Employers can book an assessment for a staff member, with their agreement. We'll send a clear summary of findings and recommendations that you can both use to plan adjustments.
Which areas do you cover?
We provide worksite assessments across East Auckland, including Pakuranga, Howick, Botany, Highland Park and East Tāmaki. Contact us if your workplace is further away and we'll let you know if we can help.
